High Collars + Haute Couture

Amazing huh? So i'm sitting here in my last history class of the term and instead of listening about how the feudal system was abolished i'm thinking about how cool detatchable collars are! It seems that within the past year designers have all caught onto the trend of removable collars and added their signiture taste to it, to make it different. Miu Miu have probably produced my favourite collar, however i'm not willing to pay $450 for one secondhand on eBay! So if anyone finds them, let me know! I reckon the print of it would just look awesome with a simple white shirt and a pair of 60's YSL or Givenchy full length flare pants. Then theres Valentino. Gaaaah. He really is my god, i think he is the only designer that every season amazes me. I continue to drool over how his neutral, skin tone palate and delicate fabrics flatter women and make them look utterly stunning. Even the harshness of Frejas look is softened!

Who said jeans and pants were boring? Whoever it was, was obviously stupid as I think jeans and pants are one of the most versatile piece of clothing that will never go out of fashion due to the practicality of them. This season, it just goes to show how crazy designers are willing to go to create the new 'it' pair of jeans/pants that everyone craves. One pair of standout pants on the winter checklist!

Clogs.

So I know clogs are from the previous season, but i'm having an obsession with them! I love the miu miu ones with the different satin prints, I just think they are so awesome. Not really into the sky scraper black leather ones, as I think they look kinda tacky but i do love Chanels material poppy clogs.

Prints

Prints are a simpe way of making a classic and boring outfit into something kooky and noticiable. My favourite print designers come from all over the world. Pucci from Italy, Desigual from Spain and Theodore & Callum from NYC. The thing about prints are they are so versatile and alsmot any print worn in the right way looks good. Pucci, turns their very sophisticated, classic look into bohemian free one, while Desigual produces print vomit that somehow works. I mean, not just any designer can throw in six different prints and colours and make it fashionable! However Theodora & Callum takes historical inspiration from Morocco, Bali, Turkey and Indonesia to create a modern feel.

McQueen knew how to construct a garment made of different colours, materials and patterns without it looking forceful and odd. He managed to incorporate chains, whips and spikes with chiffon, silk and plumes, AND make it work... now any designer/person who is able to do that earns a huge amount of respect in my book and that’s why McQueen is undoubtedly my favourite designer.
His latest collections, designed by Sarah Burton, were some of the best shows this season. I am in awe of the S/S 2011 and A/W 2011 collections and anyone who hasnt seen them should definately head to YouTube right now and see what i'm talking about. I love the build up and suspense of the collections that lead to his finale pieces, and the impact it has on you after. McQueen, you are my god.
